What began as a pastime making wine in the 1990’s to share with family and friends changed when Frank Mitolo teamed up with Ben Glaetzer, who shared his philosophy on single site definition from McLaren Vale. Their first wine, the G.A.M. Shiraz, a single vineyard wine, was produced in 2000, named in honour of Frank’s three children Gemma, Alex and Marco.
Ben joined Frank as winemaker and business partner of Mitolo Wines in 2000. Ben is part of the well- known Glaetzer family from the Barossa Valley that has a long lineage of viticulture and winemaking within the region, his father, uncle and two brothers are also winemakers. Ben has travelled and worked throughout the world’s most revered wine regions and now calls the Barossa Valley home. Ben takes a hands-off approach in the winery and works closely with the Mitolo growers, the Lopresti family, to create the signature Mitolo style.
