Jester Shiraz - 2019

94 POINTS
Enticing aromas of blackberry, dark plum, cedary oak and violet with a hint of cake spice on the nose. It’s concentrated and flavoursome on the palate, displaying excellent fruit purity and persistency. Harmonious, generous and immensely appealing. At its best: now to 2031.
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit. February 2021

A really smart vintage for this wine, it not only carries impressive intensity but there is also plenty of detail thrown in too making for a solid McLaren Vale offering. It is dark ruby in colour and shows your classic shiraz mulberry and dark berry fruits. What I like most is the savoury edges – black pepper and tobacco aromas with old oak sitting in the background. In the mouth it’s chunky and fleshy with ripe dark fruits plus some chewy tannins to give that complete McLaren Vale experience. It’s a heart warmer to match your next vegetable or meat stew.

Dark purple. Spicy and expansive on the nose, displaying scents of blackberry, cherry, vanilla and lavender and a touch of smokiness. Tightly focused dark berry flavours are complicated by floral and oak spice notes that deepen through the back half. Finishes sappy and long, with gently gripping tannins coming in late.
Josh Raynolds, Vinous, September 2022

90 POINTS
Fermented in open-top vessels slowly at low temperature to accentuate fruit. Matured in mix of used French (60%) and American (40%) oak for 6–8 months. Full bodied and to type: black cherry, boysenberry, plum, anise, mocha/vanilla oak scents and a splay of pepper grind across the seamless finish.
Ned Goodwin, Halliday Wine Companion. August 2021

89 POINTS
The 2019 Jester Shiraz comes largely off heavy clay soils, which seems to suit the style. It’s ripe and concentrated without being overly jammy or sweet tasting, with mulberry and cherry fruit joined by hints of black olive framed by a dusting of soft tannins.
Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate. February 2021
