Cantiniere, or the Cellar Master in Italian, is a tribute to a prized blend of our finest barrels from two very distinct single vineyard sites in McLaren Vale, both only kilometres from the cooling breezes of the Gulf St Vincent. Firstly, Sandra’s Block in Willunga from Christies Beach Formation of alluvial fan clay, sand and gravel. A free draining soil, it delivers Shiraz of great purity and brightness, with pretty violet notes and chewy tannins that drive the length of the palate. This is in contrast to The Chinese Block lying over Black Biscay Clay, a dark dense cracking soil that delivers an opulent and brooding style of Shiraz, of rich black fruits, olive tapenade, spice and juiciness on the palate. Together they form a seamless, harmonious and unique interpretation of the south western pocket of McLaren Vale. Only 500 cases were made.
