Vineyard Notes
Our vines are planted on the area we call ‘Lot 10’ immediately south of our Chinese block and only 5km from the seaside town of Port Willunga. The soil here is deep black Biscay clay on ancient Gnaltinga formation clay. This soil is unforgivingly dry in summer. So dry in fact that it cracks open stressing the vines immensely leading to deep, full flavours. This is the first vintage of Malbec we have made although the vines were planted fifteen years ago.
Style
Plums, violets, juicy fruit with subtle mixed herbs and soft, mouth coating tannins.
Closure
Stelvin
Food Pairing Notes
Bistecca alla fiorentina

Our growers, the Lopresti family, have been cultivating Malbec for the past fifteen years. We have always used their Malbec as a small blending component of our Jester red wines, but the 2013 vintage impressed us so much we felt it could stand alone. Rich and juicy flavours of blackcurrant and red berries prevail, a subtle herbal lift and ample tannin framework make this wine the perfect accompaniment to food. Try it with an Italian antipasto plate, shared with friends.

Colour
Inky, dark with purple hues.

Nose
Ripe plums, blackcurrant, mixed herbs.

Palate
Rich, dark and juicy with full flavours of plum and black cherries. Soft and supple tannins give the wine great structure.

Maturation
Aged in fine grained 3-4 year old oak, predominantly hogsheads (100% old French Oak) for 14 months.

Cellaring
5-7 years.
