McLaren Vale, with its rolling hills, proximity to the seaside, and ancient, yet fertile soils has direct similarities to many Mediterranean vineyards. Located about 45 minutes south of the capital of Adelaide, the region is home to some of the oldest and most highly regarded Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet vineyards in the world.
Characterised by cool winters and warm summers the region receives about 500mm (20 inches) of rain per year predominately throughout winter. Vintage consists of warm days with dry winds from inland Australia, moderated by cooling afternoon winds off the nearby ocean (Gulf St Vincent and Great Southern Ocean). These breezes temper the vines, giving Mitolo their unique style of bright and generous fruit flavours backed by refreshing acidity and long, savoury tannins.
