Ciao,

Today we release the much anticipated 2012 vintage of our Icon Single Vineyard Shiraz's, the G.A.M. 2012 and Savitar 2012.  James Halliday rated the 2012 vintage a perfect 10/10 for red wines from McLaren Vale. We saw a vintage of great fruit intensity, vibrant colour, seamless acidity and magnificent fruit concentration.

These are two wines that for me are heading straight to the cellar, with an optimum opening time of 7-10 years from now. Alternatively if you enjoy the purity of primary fruit, please decant for minimum two hours.

These are two single vineyard expressions yet with such contrasting personalities.

G.A.M. Shiraz 2012

My first ever wine, the soul of the Mitolo story, and named accordingly after my children Gemma, Alex and Marco. A single vineyard Shiraz from our Chinese Block, located only 5kms from the Gulf St Vincent, in Port Willunga. Heavy grey loam with black Biscay clay gives luscious flavours of satsuma plum, salted liquorice and black olive. Match to comforting food, like pappardelle duck ragu.

Savitar Shiraz 2012

Savitar, the mythical dragon like beast, lies on one tiny section of the Chinese Block, of unforgiving rocky soils that naturally push the vines much harder, producing low yields of tiny but well structured berries. Highly perfumed violets on the nose, with a much tighter overall structure. Blackcurrants, minty herbals, tar and a delicate floral potpourri, matched perfectly to the fine, grainy tannins. Pair with careful decanting to homemade Vincisgrassi.

As a mailing list member you are the first to have access to these new releases, and we're offering you a special six pack with complimentary shipping. These are both small batch wines that are drinking beautifully now, but will reward years of careful cellaring.

Frank Mitolo.
